5 Tips To Stay Healthy & Active While Traveling
Hey guys! I hope you’re having a great summer so far. I’ve noticed a lot more people are beginning to travel again, and I am one of them. I’m sure y’all have noticed I’ve been all over the place in the last month, and I have a few more places to hit before I settle back down in Atlanta. Even though all of my travel is in the states, I wanted to put together a quick five point list of things you can do to stay in an active routine while traveling. For many of you (myself included) a routine is key, and it’s so easy to get thrown off your routine when you are constantly on the go. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, it is very much exhausting! So check out some of the things I do to stay healthy and active.
1. Stay Hydrated (#commonsense!)
Something so easy, can be one of the first things we forget. When you first wake up in the morning drink a glass of water. Also try packing a reusable water bottle and every hour drink it down, so while you're on the go you can make sure you are drinking plenty of water. If you don’t like to drink water try adding fruit to it or mint sprig for flavor. I read it is better for your body to drink more fluids throughout the day, instead of only drinking when you are thirsty.
2. Take Your Vitamins
I keep my vitamins in my purse, but even if you don’t pack yours there are other ways you can get your daily dosage. During the day try to find a local juice bar. Try something with leafy greens (kale or spinach), and then add some fruit. Kale and spinach are a great source of vitamin C and depending on the fruit you choose you are getting potassium and other vitamins your body can be lacking.
3. Find a Workout Class to Drop Into
(Because of the pandemic a lot of gyms are still closed, so try going on a long walk or doing yoga in the park. A lot of cities are doing this now!) Before you leave for your trip, search the area where you will be staying and try to find a fitness studio. If it's your first time visiting that studio, most offer a free trial class. That way you can do a fun and quick workout.
4. Be Picky on Where You Choose to Eat
While you are searching for a workout class to drop into, also scout for restaurants. Check the menus to be sure they have healthy options so you aren't just eating what’s quick and available. This is a great idea especially if you have a specialty diet. Always remember what you consume effects your health and your energy.
5. Rest
I know rest is the last thing we think about when we are traveling, but it's so vital to our bodies. You need to get a decent nights rest so that you can reset your body.
Another simple thing you can do when choosing a workout class, restaurant, and juice bar in your area is to walk to them. That's the easiest exercise right there! Now that you have a few tips on how to stay healthy and active while traveling, I really hope you are able to incorporate them into your travel plans. Traveling shouldn’t keep us from a routine. A little pre-planning and awareness is all you need to stay on track.
