4 Tips to Keep Your Sanity During a Move

It's no secret that moving is very stressful, and majority of it is completely out of your control even if you planned everything perfectly. Especially if you are doing a cross country move like I did. So I have 4 tips for you to help keep your sanity during your move.

1. Schedule everything in advance !

Though I didn’t move until mid July, my move began in June. With locking down my new apartment, and setting up/disconnecting utilities, etc. So to stay organized I got a 30 day calendar for June/July, and wrote down everything that I needed so I wouldn’t forget anything. For example I had the day the movers were coming, when deposits were due, when to put in my 2 week notice etc. When I tell you I put everything on that calendar… I put it all on there!

2. Put money aside !

There is no definite price, so as I was pricing quotes I was able to get an "idea" of what I was going to end up paying. So I began putting money aside as much as I could along with additional money because lets be real, movers will tell you one price and when they get there they will rack it up a few bucks. You literally never know what you will need additional money for. For instance, my movers packed up my apartment on July 6th, a week before I left Atlanta. They gave me a 5-14 day window for delivery. My stuff didn't get delivered so I went to Arizona for 2 weeks to hang out and finish up the last couple weeks of work I had left. So in the event that stuff like that happens additional money is very helpful.

 3.Go with the flow !

A lot of things will be out of your control which sucks because I have major control issues. I have to know every single detail. Leaving Atlanta everything went smoothly. Arriving in California my life went into limbo. I was in Cali for 48 hours then I left for Phoenix because my furniture was delayed in delivery. Arriving in Phoenix I literally had to take it day by day. Being in AZ reminded me of how my life was when I lived out there. Every day literally feels like a vacay and I had no structure and no routine. People are just hanging out and not working, and then there's me looking for the quiet corner at a Starbucks with an available outlet so I can work.

 4. Be positive !

I'm not the most positive person in these situations because something literally always goes wrong. I had to keep telling myself that this is what I prayed for, and that I am in the middle of the transition to my new life. So keeping a positive mindset and throwing in some daily affirmations will keep you solid, because it takes no time for stress to kick in.

These 4 things are literally the only way I was able to survive this move! In all honesty I am a little happy my delivery was delayed, because I wouldn’t have been able to take a mini hiatus to AZ to see my family and some friends and just breathe!

Anywho, I hope these little tips are helpful whenever you decide to move whether it’s a major move like mine, or a small one within the city.

See you next week! Paige Worthington
