Vitamin C Serum Vs. Supplement

So a while back I broke down my skin care regime, and I didn’t have any vitamin c products. So I started trying different products and the one that worked best for me is the Sunday Riley C.E.O Vitamin C Serum. It's light weight and very moisturizing. It is a serum, but the texture feels like a moisturizer which I like because most serums make me feel a little too oily and I don’t like the feeling of product buildup.

Vitamin C is a pretty powerful antioxidant that has many benefits for your body and skin. If you want to tackle your skin then the serum is for you. It's a great anti aging component. It helps with wrinkling and it fights sun exposure. I don’t want to say that using a serum will "lighten" your complexion because that can be misinterpreted, but it does help even out your complexion. For example it helps combat hyperpigmentation and dark spots left behind from prior breakouts. A vitamin c serum also helps with the growth of additional collagen in your skin which in turn helps with anti aging. So as you see the serum does a lot.

Aside of using the serum, a couple weeks ago I began taking a Vitamin C Supplement (from Target). One thing I learned with vitamins is that using them in a product and actually digesting them has different benefits. What I like about the supplements is that they help strengthen your immune system, lower your blood pressure, and can possibly prevent chronic diseases. The two main reasons I decided to take the supplement is because I'm anemic and my memory worries me a lot. The supplements are beneficial because they help prevent iron deficiency and I'm also vegetarian so it helps better absorb iron from meat free foods. In regards to memory, my family has a history of Alzheimer's. After doing a lot of research I found that most people with dementia had low vitamin c levels. Granted Alzheimer's is a progressive disease they both attack your memory, and if I can keep my vitamin c levels high by taking the supplement I'm going to keep at it.

Now here is the tricky part. If you plan on taking the supplement you have to make sure you are taking the correct dosage for your body and age. It is water soluble which means if you take too much you will just pee it out, but with most vitamins you still don’t want to over do it. So here is a chart below for a recommended dosage that I got from healthline.com

So whether you want to be like me and use a serum for your skin and also take the supplement I say go for it. As you read vitamin c is something we all should implement in our daily routines, whether you use it in a serum or a supplement you will reap the benefits. In regards to the serum I have seen a difference in my skin. My complexion has evened out and until I find a good SPF for my face, I'm good knowing that the serum helps fight against sun exposure. Now when it comes to the supplement its only been two weeks, so I'm going to give it a little more time but I will check back in at a later date.
