Work Life Balance

I probably wrote this first sentence over 5 times and came to the realization that I didn't have a great opening sentence. I wanted to say something clever about my new job but nothing exciting came to mind.

To be completely honest the past 4 weeks I have gone from sitting in traffic, to sitting in a freezing cold office then back to sitting in traffic. I usually get home between 7-8, eating dinner and then go to bed. I know I'm not the only person that goes crazy doing this day in and day out. So I figured I would talk about having that balance between work and personal life. Without balance I start to dread getting up everyday because I'm doing the same thing over and over again. (its like those Christmas movies when you wake up and it’s the same day all over again), that’s been me these past few weeks.

So I was talking to my roomie/bestie Alysee the other day and the below three things are what we came up with to help find our balance.

  1. Limit email access when I'm not at work. Depending how bad traffic is in the mornings I find myself checking my email to try and file them into certain folders. Or when I get off I'm still checking my email, and essentially I'm still working even though I'm technically off the clock.

  2. Pick a day during the week to do a fun activity. Something to break up the work week, because I need something fun to look forward to whether it’s a happy hour at a new restaurant, karaoke night, or goat yoga. (yes I wanna try goat yoga!)

  3. Find a gym and incorporate that into my routine a few days out of the week too. Doing this will help me stay active and helps put me in a better mood. (ClassPass is currently having a deal you should check it out!)

My friend Nicole's birthday celebration last weekend and it couldn't have come at a better time. It was the reset I needed. We went to an amazing black owned spa in Burbank "Relax Spa & Beauty" got a massage and a facial and we literally laughed the whole day. It was the most relaxed I have been since moving and it helped me realize that I probably need to slow down and literally find a balance.

What are some things you do to keep your balance between work and your personal life, because I need more ideas to keep the work week interesting? Drop some of your ideas and routines below.

As Always … See Ya Next Week!
